How long will the results last?
Once a varicose vein is fully closed, it remains closed, but veins are living parts of our body and they can re-grow. It is difficult to predict if this will happen and our aftercare team are here for you to discuss at any point along your journey.
Is there any downtime?
Minimally invasive treatments performed under local anaesthetic not only provide better results but also minimise downtime. Following a short 15-minute period of recovery, our patients can return home and resume normal activity.
How long is the treatment?
In most cases, treatment should take under an hour and, as it is a minimally-invasive procedure, patients can walk in-and-out of the clinic on the same day.
Is treatment painful?
Most patients agree that any discomfort caused by the operation is tolerable. Our procedures are defined as relatively painless.
I have private medical insurance; will my treatment be covered?
Generally, private medical insurers will cover varicose vein procedures if patients are experiencing symptoms such as pain & throbbing or skin discolouration. If the reason for treatment is purely cosmetic, then insurers are unlikely to cover treatment costs.

Therefore, at UK Vein Clinic we include a guarantee that means if, for whatever reason, the veins we treat with RFA are not successfully closed we will re-treat those veins free of charge for up to a year following your initial treatment. FAQ: How will I know if the treatment hasn’t been successful and therefore any re-treatment would be covered by the guarantee? At the first stage of our clinical pathway our vascular scientists complete a detailed scan of your veins to identify which ones need treating. At your follow up appointment after treatment we will re-scan your legs again to check if the treatment has been successful. If at this stage we identify that the veins have we treated are not successfully closed we will re-treat those veins free of charge.
